What Are Insight Scans — and Why We Use Them in Our Office

When it comes to your health — and especially your child’s — it’s not enough to simply look healthy. True health starts with how your body functions, and that all begins with the nervous system.

That’s why at our office, we use state-of-the-art Insight Scans to look deeper than symptoms — giving us a clear picture of how your brain and body are communicating and adapting to stress.

The Power of the Nervous System

Your nervous system is the master control center of the body — regulating everything from sleep and digestion to mood, immunity, and development. It determines how you respond to the world around you, and how well your body can adapt to life’s daily stressors.

When the nervous system becomes overwhelmed or “stuck” in stress mode, it can show up differently in every person:

  • In babies: colic, reflux, poor sleep, constipation
  • In kids: sensory challenges, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, frequent illness
  • In adults: fatigue, headaches, hormonal changes, poor recovery, burnout

That’s where Insight Scans come in — they help us see how well your nervous system is functioning so we can create care plans that truly support healing and regulation from the inside out.

What Are Insight Scans?

Insight Scans are a set of completely safe, non-invasive scans that measure how your nervous system is functioning and adapting.

They don’t diagnose illness — instead, they measure function, which often changes long before symptoms show up.

There are three main types of scans we use in the office:

NeuroThermal Scan

This scan looks at temperature patterns along your spine to assess how well your autonomic nervous system is regulating — specifically, how balanced your “fight or flight” and “rest and digest” responses are.

If we see areas of imbalance, it can mean your nervous system is under stress, working harder than it should, or not adapting efficiently.

Surface EMG Scan

This scan measures the energy and tone in the muscles along your spine, showing how your body is using energy to maintain posture and balance.

It’s especially helpful in kids with coordination or sensory challenges, or adults who feel tight, tense, or fatigued even at rest.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Scan

Your HRV scan shows how well your body adapts to stress — it’s one of the best indicators of nervous system health and resilience.

A flexible, adaptable HRV means your body can handle stress and recover easily. A rigid, low HRV often means your system is stuck in survival mode and struggling to rest or regulate.

What the Scans Tell Us

When we combine these three scans, we get a complete picture of how your nervous system is functioning. We can see:

  • Where stress is stored in the body
  • How well your body is adapting and recovering
  • Whether you’re in a balanced, restful state or stuck in overdrive
  • How your function changes over time with chiropractic care

The best part? You’ll actually get to see the results with your own eyes — colorful, easy-to-understand visuals that track your progress and healing journey.

Why We Include Insight Scans in Care

Every patient — from newborns to adults — starts with Insight Scans so we can truly understand what’s happening beneath the surface.

They allow us to:

  • Establish an objective baseline before care begins
  • Track functional improvements over time
  • Customize care based on how your nervous system responds
  • Catch signs of stress before symptoms appear

For moms, babies, and families, these scans are an empowering way to see that healing is happening — even when it’s not always visible yet.
